The More I See The Less I Know...

Yesterday was one of those strange days where everything seemed a little off. I was late for work for the first time in years (I'm one of those rare breeds, a morning person) and from then on in I just didn't feel right. Life has been a bit busy lately, as I've started taking classes two days a week after work in web design. In retrospect, I probably should have picked a different semester other than the summer to try and tackle on all these things, as every other day it seems like someones having a baby, getting married, or making some other large life decision that warrants a celebration.

As soon as I made it home last night, all I wanted to do was throw on comfortable clothes, pour myself a huge glass of water (I was thirsty, ok?) and veg out on the couch. I finally watched this week's season finale of Weeds and by the episodes end I was off my feet dancing around like a chicken with its head cut off (luckily Pat was out so he didn't have to witness this moment). Why, you ask? Well the episode ended with this fabulous "dance" number with a song called "Say Hey (I Love You". Since then, I haven't been able to stop listening.

Check out the video of the scene here.

However, the point of this post (sometimes I find one) is that I am djing tomorrow night for the first time in what seems like forever and I'll probably play that awesome tune above (see the correlation?) The night is to celebrate the release of second EP Restaurant Airport. I caught the boys last month for the 1st EP party (there will be 3 in this series) and it was surreal to see how they've transitioned over the years. Their new work is really something to get excited about, and judging from the turnout last month, I think tomorrow is going to be a pretty crazy night.

More details on the event can be found here and make sure you download Restaurant Airport (FOR FREE) before coming out to the show.

See you tomorrow!

I've decided to get back to djing! It was a Rachael-friendly time (4-9 PM) at a very cool new bar (Arrow Bar) with drink specials for my favorite people (2 for 1 drinks all night!)

Dancing Shoes: Ruby | Kaiser Chiefs

We're back at the Skinny tonight, determined to make you stay up late on a Thursday night and dance with us until the wee hours of the morning. Nora just informed me that she is going to need a lot of Red Bull to make it through the night. Me? Just keep the tunes cranking and I wont get cranky.

Or actually, to keep both of us up, we just need one song. This one song has been the basis of all language and vocabulary this week. Instead of actually speaking in sentences Nora and I have resorted to one word. And that word? ROOOOOBAAAAAAYYYY.

The new Kaiser Chiefs song is the greatest thing I've heard in a very long time. Thanks to Matt for finding it for us. Because now, our lives have drastically changed.

We'll see you tonight. And make sure you yell ROOOOOOBAAAAAAAY.

    thursdays is OUR day

    Ah, the holidays.

We're ready to kick off the holiday weekend in style, officially. We hear certain other parties haven't lasted the Thursday night time slot, but it seems to be doing us just fine. Who doesn't like to go into work on friday morning still drunk? It only makes the day that much more fun.

    I digress.

Tonight we are celebrating the holidays before we take off to our respective locations. I'd imagine there will be some mistletoe, some santa hats, and probably a eggnog or two.

Come out and celebrate your new favorite night with your new favorite djs...we won't tell the others.

    One Hit Wonder Day

Well it's Friday, and I've decided to declare it "One Hit Wonder" Day at the office. I'm playing dj.

Earlier in the week, Donna Lewis' "I Love You Always Forever" randomly entered my brain and I couldn't get it out of my head. What a classic. I remember actually buying the CD single of this song. Remember when you used to buy singles? Maybe that was just me. Anyways, I used to play this song over and over again when I was at the age of 12, and here I am 10 years later doing the exact same thing.

I've decided I want a band to cover this song. It's screaming for it. Please, please, please. If you know what is good for you, you will make this song rocking and we will all be better because of it.

    Thank you.

Dancing Shoes: All Sparks (Phones Remix) | Editors

Holy shite. Just when I was forgetting how much I actually do, in fact, love Editors, they come out with a remix album that is, well....bonkers. (In a good way of course)

Now I'm remembering how nutty I would get when I would see them play, especially at that first NYC appearance at Rothko (RIP). Feels like ages ago, doesn't it? Well, they are still going. And going strong.

All of The Back Room was just screaming remixes from the get-go, so I'm glad to see we now have a nifty little collection. You can buy the whole EP on iTunes. This remix of "All Sparks," while not on the EP has gotten me wide awake at 8 AM. I'm having fun dancing around my room. It has replaced coffee...for now.

You can bet I will be spinning this on Thursday at The Skinny when I finally return to the dj booth. It's been since Halloween since I've last djed. Can you believe it? I can't. Well, I'm back. So get ready.

    No Thanks-giving

Well, I regret to inform you that I will not be at The Skinny tonight for our wonderful pre-Turkey Day dance off. While I had been sniffly and congested for the past four days, last night took a turn for the worse. After a restless sleep, I found myself in emergency care this morning, wheezing beyond control and then diagnosed with some sort of bronchial infection.

    Awesome.

I've been told that DJing is not part of the recovery, unfortunately, so Nora will be on her own tonight. So that's all the more reason why you should go and keep her company. Have a drink of seven in honor of me. Don't forget that the $30 open bar starts at 11 PM. I'll be dancing on my sickbed.

Looks like it'll just be puppy and me for Turkey day tomorrow. I think I have a frozen dinner somewhere.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! Hopefully it's better than mine...
