Underrated Presents: The GoStation

The GoStation is no stranger to Underrated shows. In fact they played my 21st birthday celebration, way back when, at the now defunct Tribeca Rock Club. There's been a lot of changes since, and The GoStation has grown into a solid live act that is bound to go beyond a local scene. The band will take the stage fourth on Saturday, at 11 PM.

The GoStation @ Shindig

I've seen this band play so many times, but each time I remember why it was I loved them in the first place. It's a classic sound, harboring on the great Brit Pop of the early 90's combined with New York's garage rock of late. Each time their set is just a notch above the last, which is why I like going to see bands play so many times. If they keep getting better, I'd be silly not to catch them each time.

From donning the cover of Underrated, to landing a record deal, I've seen this band evolve and accomplish everything they've set out to do. With a new album out this year, it's going to be about time that you hear what they've been up to. Or you can come check them out Saturday night. It's sure to be amazing.

  • The GoStation - Wandering Away

While I've got your attention, I'd like to announce there will be free PBR starting at 8 PM. Thanks to our friends, we'll have a couple cases to give out free beer so you can be super hipster and write home to tell about it. Get there early because it's going to go fast!

Tickets are now available online for our January 27th show at Sin-e. Click here to order.

    Underrated Presents: January 27 @ Sin-e

I keep saying I'm going to stop doing these shows, but I can't help myself. I want to see all these bands, and if I can do it all in one night with all my friends, well then let's go for it. This show has been my biggest accomplishment to date....with five (yes FIVE) bands. It's a Saturday night, so get on your dancing shoes and get ready for some fabulous music. I've decided to hand over all dj duties to Miss Nora K so I won't be running around like a chicken with its head cut off. But don't worry...there will be an afterparty.

A huge thanks to Carolyn for yet another fabulous flyer.

More details, mp3s, and info on each band to come in the next two weeks. Here's the lineup...

    Sure Juror (8 PM)
Seth Kallen + The Reaction (9 PM)
    White Rabbits (10 PM)
    The GoStation (11 PM)
    Liam & Me (12 AM)

    Get ready!

    Drew Goren Memorial Fund

    From The GoStation:

Last month, The GoStation lost a good friend. Drew Goren, a very gifted and talented photographer, passed away after losing a long battle against cancer.

We did some of our favorite photo shoots ever with Drew, and have been proud to call him a friend for a number of years. We'll miss him greatly, but no one will miss him more than his family.

Drew left behind a five-year-old daughter, Nina, and she and her mom need all the support they can get in this difficult time. A memorial fund has been set up in Drew's name, and we'd like to ask anyone who can possibly help to donate to it.

If you've ever lost someone close to you, or struggled with illness yourself, you know how devastating it is. We're planning on setting up a benefit show in the next few months to raise money for this cause, but in the meantime, if you can spare anything at all, please do.

If everyone on our mailing list gives even a few dollars, we can raise thousands to help support a very special little girl, and to honor the memory of an equally special man.

For more information and a secure donation link, please visit Drew's memorial website: http://inmemoryofdrewgoren.blogspot.com

(Be sure to specify that your donation is for the "Drew Goren Memorial Fund" on the donation form.)

You can also check out some of the fantastic work he did at his own photo site: http://www.subwaysleeper.com

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and for anything you can do to help.

A very happy New Year from all of us to each and every one of you.

    LOVE

    The GoStation

Battle of The Bands @ Avalon

Hi. I'm a bit busy, but I can't forget to mention that last night's battle of the bands was the most strange show I have ever been to. First of all, it was at Avalon, which I've never been to before and probably wont again. I felt strange drinking beer in a church, although I'm sure much worse has gone down there since. The open bar ended up closed by the time we got there, but Nora, god love her, managed to get us a bucket of beer when she pretended to be The Go Station's manager.

Speaking of The GoStation, they played their best show to date last night, and if I say so myself...definitely should have won. I have seen this band countless times, but last night all the right stars were aligned for them. A big stage, big smiles, and a big crowd that was eating up every minute of every song. PLUS, they even had a string player. My goodness! Bring these boys to a stadium, ASAP.

After The GoStation was Locksley, whose CD I have been sitting on for weeks (ok months) now and I sincerely apologize for. I heart this band like whoa. Not only are they cutie cuties, but they were so much fun. Seriously, I don't know what came over me, but all of a sudden I was a giddy 13 year old screaming my heart out and...dancing. I know. It shouldn't happen, but when it does, there's always a good reason for it. The band ended up winning, and if it had to be someone else other than The GoStation, I'm glad it was them. Definitely not the emo band that followed. They hurt my ears.

Head on over to Nora's blog for more Locksley love, including mp3s, and then her babbling about the Chipotle woman. My vote is for Brendan from Olive Garden, ps. He makes my heart skip a beat almost as much as the free breadsticks and salad.

Oh boy, now I'm babbling. I really should remember my camera when I go to these shows. Sorry.
