Dancing Shoes: Ruby | Kaiser Chiefs

We're back at the Skinny tonight, determined to make you stay up late on a Thursday night and dance with us until the wee hours of the morning. Nora just informed me that she is going to need a lot of Red Bull to make it through the night. Me? Just keep the tunes cranking and I wont get cranky.

Or actually, to keep both of us up, we just need one song. This one song has been the basis of all language and vocabulary this week. Instead of actually speaking in sentences Nora and I have resorted to one word. And that word? ROOOOOBAAAAAAYYYY.

The new Kaiser Chiefs song is the greatest thing I've heard in a very long time. Thanks to Matt for finding it for us. Because now, our lives have drastically changed.

  • Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby

We'll see you tonight. And make sure you yell ROOOOOOBAAAAAAAY.

    Happy Birthday Nora!

Today is my radio co-host and all around partner in crime, Miss Nora's birthday. She is old-er. And to celebrate, we must do what we do best...drink a lot, dance a lot, and act like all around crazy people. And where is this happening? Our home away from home – The Skinny.

I will be djing tonight in celebration. You are all welcome to come and wish her a happy happy birthday. Festivities start at 10. I can't guarantee anything after that.

    Valentines Day Mix 2007

Any holiday that gives me an excuse to make a mix is fine by me. Sure, I've been known to say I hate this day and damn all those happy lovey dovey people, but in actuality Valentines Day isn't half bad. Who doesn't like chocolate and cheesy romantic gestures? And let's be honest, who doesn't like love songs. Not this girl.

I woke up this morning to a good amount of snow and an even greater hangover -- the perfect mindset to make a Valentines Day mix. It's a bit of an eclectic bunch of songs: some old, some new, feel free to borrow, but some will make you blue. Regardless it works for both you happy go lucky people and the miserable alike. It's also available in a handy dandy zip file below as well.

    Enjoy.

  • Neutral Milk Hotel - Ghost
  • Broken Social Scene - Lover's Spit
  • The Postal Service - Against All Odds
  • The Kinks - Waterloo Sunset
  • Sure Juror - Ex-Cuties
  • Let's Go Sailing - All I Want From You Is Love
  • The Cure - The Love Cats
  • The Brunettes - Your Heart Dies
  • Arcade Fire - Crown Of Love
  • Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should Have Come Over
  • Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Cheated Hearts
  • The Wrens - She Sends Kisses
  • Birdmonster - Janine
  • Elvis Perkins - Without Love
  • Radiohead - High And Dry
  • Levy - So Hard
  • Jose Gonzalez - Broken Arrows
  • Marcy Playground - Sex And Candy
  • Blind Melon - Change
  • Oh No! Oh My! - Skip The Foreplay
  • Ryan Adams - Love Is Hell

And make sure you come to this tonight.

    BLOG SHOW #16

Another super special Blog Show on BreakThru Radio. This time around we had some fun guests stop by (thanks in large part to the fact that I now have a couch!) Rob from the band Morning Theft came by to premiere super exclusive new tracks from their upcoming record. The band is also playing Mercury Lounge tonight, and Nora said drinks are on her if you come by. Success!

To celebrate this pretty cool show I have coming up on Saturday, Seth Kallen stopped by and played a couple tracks, including an amazing solo version of "Strange Man." It was so good, in fact, that I made it into an mp3 for all you.

  • Seth Kallen - Strange Man (live acoustic)

SPEAKING OF AMAZING LIVE SONGS. If you haven't listened to Undisputed Heavyweights live session on BreakThru Radio, you must do so immediately. I gushed about the set on Tuesday and now I got my favorite song of the set, "Bitches Be Trippin'" in which Casey was top notch. The best I've ever heard this song.

  • The Undisputed Heavyweights - Bitches Be Trippin' (live on BTR)

But all in all, you must check out the Blog Show this week. It's a good one. Here's a direct link to listen.

Oh! And come to The Skinny tonight! Nora and I will be there with bells on, perhaps jingle bells if this whole snow rumor is true. We'll keep you warm by dancing up a storm all night, I promise.

    Ok, that's all.

    thursdays is OUR day

    Ah, the holidays.

We're ready to kick off the holiday weekend in style, officially. We hear certain other parties haven't lasted the Thursday night time slot, but it seems to be doing us just fine. Who doesn't like to go into work on friday morning still drunk? It only makes the day that much more fun.

    I digress.

Tonight we are celebrating the holidays before we take off to our respective locations. I'd imagine there will be some mistletoe, some santa hats, and probably a eggnog or two.

Come out and celebrate your new favorite night with your new favorite djs...we won't tell the others.

Dancing Shoes: All Sparks (Phones Remix) | Editors

Holy shite. Just when I was forgetting how much I actually do, in fact, love Editors, they come out with a remix album that is, well....bonkers. (In a good way of course)

Now I'm remembering how nutty I would get when I would see them play, especially at that first NYC appearance at Rothko (RIP). Feels like ages ago, doesn't it? Well, they are still going. And going strong.

All of The Back Room was just screaming remixes from the get-go, so I'm glad to see we now have a nifty little collection. You can buy the whole EP on iTunes. This remix of "All Sparks," while not on the EP has gotten me wide awake at 8 AM. I'm having fun dancing around my room. It has replaced coffee...for now.

You can bet I will be spinning this on Thursday at The Skinny when I finally return to the dj booth. It's been since Halloween since I've last djed. Can you believe it? I can't. Well, I'm back. So get ready.

    No Thanks-giving

Well, I regret to inform you that I will not be at The Skinny tonight for our wonderful pre-Turkey Day dance off. While I had been sniffly and congested for the past four days, last night took a turn for the worse. After a restless sleep, I found myself in emergency care this morning, wheezing beyond control and then diagnosed with some sort of bronchial infection.

    Awesome.

I've been told that DJing is not part of the recovery, unfortunately, so Nora will be on her own tonight. So that's all the more reason why you should go and keep her company. Have a drink of seven in honor of me. Don't forget that the $30 open bar starts at 11 PM. I'll be dancing on my sickbed.

Looks like it'll just be puppy and me for Turkey day tomorrow. I think I have a frozen dinner somewhere.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! Hopefully it's better than mine...
