Underrated Magazine began as a radical idea by a frustrated 19-year-old wannabe journalist. After living in New York City for a year, she realized that there was great music out there going unheard. With a computer and a dream in hand, Underrated was born. Started in 2003 as a print ‘zine, and moved to an online publication in 2005, the site has explored and shared great underground music from all over the world. The Underrated Blog breathed fresh air into the publication; giving readers instant access to music, show reviews, and the daily exploits of a crazed fan.
Underrated aims to bridge the gap between musician and fan, and to take an open discussion of contemporary music and the industry to the streets. While the magazine itself is no longer in print, underratedmagazine.com provides readers with interviews, features, podcasts, events and a daily blog.
I like Drew. She seems cool enough, dated a Stroke, and wears fun t-shirts on TV. Sadly, her latest movie Music & Lyrics turned out to be an $11 nap. Oh well.
She posted her playlist up on iTunes. Not too shabby.
Rachael is a young woman who has her finger on the pulse of the New York City indie rock scene. She blogs about it on The Underrated Blog. As the editor of the magazine Underrated, she routinely gains access to the best of the set-to-explode bands. Her music blog used to provide more MP3 samples, but recently the format has been changed to quality over quantity, as she goes for a more in-depth profile of the bands she blogs about. One outstanding thing about Rachael is that she often puts on live shows in the New York City area that feature the bands she blogs about.
